Central Greenway Project

Origin of the Central Greenway Project

After a successful Film Night in 2007, Urban Salisbury, Inc. contacted the City Park Committee, the Salisbury Zoo and the Ward Museum to see if each of them was interested in hosting a film night in summer 2008. The response was a resounding Yes!

Each partner realized that a film series, at different contiguous sites, was an easy and efficient way of strengthening the linkages between the sites thus giving residents and visitors another reason to visit each site. This year’s Summer Film series will feature four family films; each one shown at a different neighboring site.

Soon thereafter, the film series partners met at the Ward Museum to discuss implementation of a 2000 scheme to create a walking-hiking-biking trail around the City. They soon agreed the original proposal was too grand to be implemented easily. They concluded recreational linkages in the heart of the city could be strengthened via a cost effective system of interpretive signage. This would be the foundation of the overall Greenway Program. More non-profit organizations joined the partnership. Thus, the Central Greenway project was born.
