CITY MARKET FEASIBILITY STUDY GRANT
Urban Salisbury has received a major grant from the United States Department of Agriculture, Rural Development Office through the Rural Business Enterprise Grant program for a feasibility study of a City Market.
For a number of months, Urban Salisbury and representatives of Maryland Hawk Corporation have been discussing the potential viability of a “City Market” located in the City of Salisbury. A specialty food and beverage market, the City Market might be a venue for farmers, local producers and others from around and perhaps, outside the State to supply produce, meats, flowers, artisanal and imported foods not readily available in Salisbury and Wicomico County. Similar urban markets can be found in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Easton and in many other communities.
The USDA funding allows Urban Salisbury to engage a team of qualified consultants to explore the viability of this new venture. The four phase study will examine the supply and demand, the potential sites, the financial and socio-economic impact and the long term potential for success.
Urban Salisbury is especially grateful to those individuals and organizations who endorsed our grant application including Senator Benjamin L. Cardin, Congressman Frank Kratovil, the County of Wicomico, the City of Salisbury, the Richard A. Henson Foundation and the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce. Thank you all for your support.
Information on the progress of the study and the results will be available on our website or by telephone to Urban Salisbury, Inc. at 410-546-3205.
