The City's Facade Grant program provides financial and business assistance to businesses and commercial property owners interested in renovating the street faces of their buildings.The program was established to increase the physical appearance of Salisbury's commercial areas.
Objective
The purpose of this program is to encourage and assist with rehabilitation and restoration of facades of buildings withing Downtown Salisbury.
Eligible Properties
The property must be located in Downtown Salisbury, for the purposes of this program an area bounded by Highway 13 on the East, Delaware Avenue and the Wicomico River on the West, Salisbury Parkway (Highway 50) on the North and Riverside Drive (to Wicomico Street) and the north side of Carroll Street on the South.
Commercial, Industrial, Residential and Public properties may be eligible for funding assistance.
Program Parameters
Grant funding must be used for rehabilitation and/or restoration of the exterior of the structure. Rehabilitation and restoration of the interior of the structure will not be considered. In some instances, exterior lighting and landscaping of grounds immediately contiguous to the structure may be considered.
Grant funding will only be awarded prior to construction of the project. Rehabilitation and restoration projects that are underway will not be considered.
In most instances, façade rehabilitations or restorations must conform to the guidelines of the Salisbury Historic District Commission. A copy of the Guidelines can be found on the City’s website or through the Commission at 410-341-9550. Prior approval of the conceptual and materials plans by the Salisbury Historic District Commission will be a key element of the grant application process in those instances.
Applicants
Written applications from public and private sector property owners and tenants, with the written approval of the property owner, will be considered.
Applicants must demonstrate their ability to complete the project within 6 months of the start date.
Potential Funding
Grants will be limited to a maximum of $7,500, not to exceed one-third the cost of the project.Grants for large scale public projects that exceed these guidelines may be considered if funds are available and the façade rehabilitation or restoration is deemed to benefit the entire community.
Grants may be combined with funds from other programs to complete the project.
